Default I need a new central locking remote key

The remote central locking key fob has had an intermittent fault for months now where it won't unlock or lock the car. Obviously I have changed the battery but this made no difference at all. Spoke to 2 Volvo dealers about a replacement (it's the one with the flip out key blade) but told it is no longer available and they can't re - program a secondhand one.
Has anyone got any suggestions as I don't want to keep using the key in the lock.

Get it repaired.

Google key fob repairers and there's a few places out there that specialize in repairing the key fob electronics

I used "keyfobrepair.co.uk" who repaired a fob that had slowly faded and died - i.e. the switches gradually all failed over a few weeks & definitely not the battery.

They have a very fast turn around - they repair cost for a C70 fob was £25.

On one of my car's fobs it was the circuit board that had cracked & that was causing it to work intermittently.

So you could try CAREFULLY pressing on the circuit board whilst trying the remotes buttons to see if that helps ... hopefully it doesn't make the problem worse, however!!

There is also a small possibility that the receiving antenna above the Speedo has stopped working. Quite rare to happen, but seen it in two occasions. It's plug and play and does not require any programming.

If it's not that and you can't get the key fob repaired, you could get a complete lockset, and replace the lot. The lockset comprises of the ECU, inmobiliser module, lock alarm module recover for the fobs, keys, steering column lock barrel, drivers door lock, boot lock and glovebox lock. Did this on my 1.9D S40 and got 2 keys this way for much less

Default Thanks

Thanks to all who have helped with information, it's much appreciated. I think I'm going to start with a key fob repair and see if that fixes it. Using the key at the moment - better than nothing. Thanks again
