Default How to remove S40/V50 R-design facelift grill

My R-design badge was all flakey and faded, so I decided to just get rid of it entirely. Also these 'R-design' trims basically make the slow versions look like the fast versions, which is a tad irritating.

You don't need to remove the bumper to do this.

Worth noting that the facelift R-Design grill has 10 clips whereas pre-facelist rectangular grill has 6.

Push a regular butter knife gently into the gap between the grill and the bumper, in the locations shown below. If the knife doesn't go in that far, you are probably hitting the thick side of the tab, the knife should be able to go in relatively far.

If you still have trouble, then just pop out the 5 push pin clips along the top edge of the bumper, and undo the 2 torx screws either side. You can then carefully pry the top lip of the bumper back slightly and you'll see the top row of grill clips which you can push in with a screwdriver.

A very timely and useful post, hoping to replace my facelift grille as the badge is cracked, can you confirm the badge is part of the diagonal bar and not separate?

I've not been able to manage to do this without removing the entire bumper to be honest..

I prefer removing the bumper, you can inadvertently make marks with a butter even when you're being careful.
No biggie to me as after having it off in succession about 4 times in a row due to a naughty intercooler hose I now have the Guiness World Record for removing a V50 bumper.

The most annoying part is putting it back on again tbh! :P

Taking the bumper off is a piece of cake if you don't have headlamp washers.

Admittedly it's still pretty easy with headlamp washers, but I take one look at those spring loaded jets and just can't be bothered!

No marks whatsoever on my car and I'm not the most careful person!

Good job there. I recently sprayed my grille and took the bumper off to remove it.

I tried to get it off like you did, but couldn't manage it.

As you all say, once you've taken the bumper off once, it's a doddle after that.
