I piggy backed the rear heated screen fuse for the rear camera and front wipers for my front camera.

There's suitable bolts for earth in the spare wheel well and behind the bottom glove box panel.
Thank you so much Crumpet, I will go back there today and let them know!

How are you going to transform the voltage from 12v to 5v ?

The Nextbase hardwire kit does that automatically

Perhaps someone with a v40 could be more help but I would be very surprised if there isn't a fuse box on both sides of the bulkhead.
Ended up using fuse 85

By using the unit's own transformer plug!

I hate visible wires, so on several cars, including my new-to-me C70 I used a piggy back fuse (which Halfords don't seem to have heard of) on the fuse protecting the 12v socket.

I connected this to a trailing female ciggy lighter socket, bought, like the piggyback fuse, via eBay, and simply plugged the dash cam transformer plug into it. There's usually plenty of room above/behind/around the fuse box to physically hide it. The rest of the wiring is hidden behind trim.

The beauty of this is that it has the advantage of being hard wired, but removable without trace when the car is disposed of.

All the fuse positions I tried are permanently live. The spare fuse positions do not have the connector clips in the holder so my piggy back fuse just falls out. Does any body know the wire colours for the 12v socket in the centre console? And where I can break into it?
Thanks, Tom

When i hard wired in my sat nav on my V60 i used the fuse for the passenger side heated seat & piggy backed off that, this was located in the smaller fuse box under the glove box,not sure if the V40 is the same? I could not use the 12v outlet in the console as when the car was locked the socket became live again for around 5 seconds & turned the sat nav on again only for it to power off again 5 seconds later which i wasnt happy with.I did struggle to find a ignition controlled supply as well hence why i ended up using the heated seat fuse.
