Default Window chip repair

Had a small chip in my windscreen last week and popped into the Volvo garage today but they said they couldn't repair as it was in the "red zone".
It's about 3 inches from the bottom of the glass, pretty much lined up with the centre of the steering wheel. From the driving seat I don't notice it as it is where you see the bonnet, so not a distraction.
Is that right they can't fix it and will need to be a replacement screen?

It is all out there on the internet just waiting for you to do a search.

As it's Valentines day have a look here https://www.volvocars.com/images/v/-...yre-repair.pdf

Lol, thanks. Searches usually end up with me going in circles on topics like this.
I guess they have more stringent standards as they are doing it for free then, I've had chips like this on previous cars repaired so seemed odd, at least I know now.

One option might be to try a DIY kit ( ebay/amazon) and repair yourself if you have the time...

Most insurance companies repair for a very small sum and it usually does not affect your claims history.

I think with LV it is about 20 quid for a repair.

Just because Volvo wont repair it doesnt mean that it is not repairable and would pass an MOT.......

From the MoT manual

Check for:

damage in windscreen zone A more than 10mm in diameter
damage in the remainder of the windscreen’s swept area more than 40mm in diameter
damage to windows on either side of the driver’s seat
excessive tinting or discolouration of the windscreen or windows on either side of the driver’s seat
Failure for damage is only justified if the damage significantly affects the driver’s view of the road. You do not need to consider the effects on tall or short drivers.

Failure for tinting or discolouration is only justified if the driver’s view is significantly affected.

Zone A is:

in the swept area of the windscreen
290mm wide
centred on the steering wheel

And ...

Repaired windscreens must be judged solely on whether the repair interferes with vision. An ‘invisible’ or barely detectable repair, finished flush with the surrounding glass, does not count as damage.

Yep, I'm with Churchill, will be £25 and already got an appointment for tomorrow, hopefully they agree can just be repaired.

Update: Fully repaired and all ok. Think that's the quickest service I've ever had for a car repair, less than 24hrs lol.
Attached a pic of the original chip for reference.

What is Volvo's issue with repairing the windscreen in the red zone?
