I am beginning to see the benefits of having a near standard car anyway! I use it everyday and know I can rely on it whereas my old one was a bit touch and go at times! Serves me right for using a turbo no one had ever fitted to a Volvo lol. Once you get over 300bhp the list of mods grows very quickly and the price to keep reliability also goes up quite a bit.

I've just sold my k24 for 2 reasons

1. After breaking my s40 I'm fed up with sitting in the cold working on a car
2. I need my car on road 100% of the time this year!
2.5. I would mind a jet ski this summer!
No worries mate, like I say, boring if we were all the same and nobody would learn anything if some weren't willing to "experiment". It was least hassle option for me, least cost on account of deal with turbo, injectors and AFR all rolled into one and meant car was on road all time.

Agreed, if I was going to consider going a reliable 300 plus, would go different route but unless you had a switchable map and/or boost or trick LSD, would start to get undriveable at that (I believe that with it's trick bits, a Focus RS will still pull you into the verge or middle of road if you don't keep a tight grip on steering and think that is 305bhp?)

Thumbs up on jet ski too - always thought about one but I'm too far from sea and right now not on my list!

As mate said this morning on the job side "Just a question of time".... Reminded me of Depeche Mode track and probably right. 4 possibles on go but won't be until New Year. Roll on 2013!

All the best

Grant

Hi Grant,

There is a lot to be said for having the car on the road as much as possible and as the car drives very well in the tune it's in I'm happy. Probably the same as you feel about yours. My problem is being a petrol head and always wanting something faster! I must resist =]

300bhp as we all know is more than enough, it's hard not to begin chasing the figures once you get started. It's quite addictive. May be a good idea not to get your car dyno'd, it may start you off down that road lol

Good luck on the job front! I was actually listening to Depeche Mode last night coincidently!

Cheers,

Mitch.

I think if I do ever go for big bhp at some point in future, it won't be with a Volvo and I'll buy the labours of someone else's work and money!!!

Mate had an older Skyline with stupid power and it was a hoot and I've seen MR2's at well over 500bhp for same money as a nearly new Mondeo. But being absolutely honest, the STI RA was probably best most useable I've had. Lightened, with the electronic centre diff, GEMS ECU and plated rear diff and as a point to point on B roads, not much would touch it. Could get std car and put to same spec or a good one similar for £5k. And despite the image, I DO like my Subarus!!!!

Cheers

Grant

I like them too, I think it's a car I need to get out of my system one day for sure. Buying the fruits of someone else's labours also seems the best bet. Tuning always comes in at double the expense as first thought!

A car you will probably get INTO your system lol!! Get a good one that hasn't been thrashed (they do exist) and you'll see what it's all about. Hardly "luxurious" inside, but well screwed together and functional (never had any issues with interior/instrument lights etc lol!!!

The car I'm talking about is a phase 2 and has been on the same rollers with 2 different turbos .a stock 14t and a ccr 14,16t hybrid on stock engine management no remap just Vxr 470 injectors and was pushing the same power at 1.4 bar.now we have fitted a 18t the car is totally different and the one he has has a angled exhaust housing and running 1.3 bar and is totally fast compared to before .but we will get the car on the rollers though.
