Question low battery way forward

Having joined you all just over a week ago with the purchase of a 2008MY C30 SE Lux, I managed to shut the door on my finger after moving it just a few yards. As a consequence, it did not move for a week until I put it on my drive to fit mats etc. At this stage the low battery warning message appeared. The next morning I attempted to start for a proper journey and it started , coughed and stopped and attempts to restart have failed even though it appears to crank at a reasonable speed.

My breakdown service does not cover at home

Any advice on the best procedure to get it running will be appreciated.

TIA

David

Push it down the road and then call them up......

Are we talking car battery or key battery?

You should maybe just replace the battery on your drive? I would NOT advise bump-starting or using jump leads just in case you damage any sensitive electronics (others may be able to advise on this).

To be fair the battery will more than likely recover if put on charge (out of the car) I'm still using my 2004 battery and it's fine.

I don't know if changing the battery will flag any faults on these cars? (some cars show the airbag light after changing the battery). There are ways of ensuring a constant 12v supply whilst changing the battery (using a set of leads and crocodile clips on the battery cables) but if you are unsure in any way try and get a friendly local garage to come out to you?

Borrow a battery charger and leave it for 10/15 mins and then crack it over mate to get it going. I did this on mine as I left the side lights on and drained the battery and its been fine since

Mine is a MY08 S40 still on the OEM battery. Not sure how often you should change a battery but its well known that you can expect 10 years or more form modern batteries even though it says it will die in X amount of years.

I thought I'd post an update

the problem was not battery related! Although the fuel gauge showed around half a tank it was empty. Added a gallon and it started instantly.

No further problems but I now need to investigate how modern fuel gauges work
