I guess it depends what made it leak? Hopefully they'll also check that the PCV system is working correctly, as many posts on the other thread (linked by me on page 1) suggest that oil leakage may be the result of pressurisation of the cam cover volume.

If both the cap and the cam cover seal around the edge are leaking i would strongly suspect pressure building up in the crank case ventilation system , it should vent to the turbo air inlet hose via that short rubber hose on the passenger side of the cam cover ...

Car in for two days in a couple of weeks to:

Fix the leak referred to above, and
A new seat frame as the driver’s seat is loose.

Got a loaner for the period too.

Hi, any news yet about the oil leaks.

This type of problem was quite common on the BMW 2 litre diesel from 2004 to 2007. Pressure would build up in the engine due to the crankcase vent. system becoming clogged up and a modified PCV was designed which was said to be "fit and forget"

The problems for BMW were, oil coming out of the dipstick hole when it was removed, oil leaks from the cam cover and sometimes turbo bearing seals blown, which would sometimes cause the engine to run on its own oil and destroy itself.

It took some time for the BMW dealerships to realise the problem was the PCV valve and it eventually became incorperated into the sevice intervals for checking.


So if the dealer is unaware of this particular type of fault, changing the cam cover gasket to cure the oil leak, will only result in the leak returning at a later date.

Hi, leak repaired yesterday. Fumes had gone after the service and have not returned. Was in a rush to get going so didn’t chat for long.
