......i might have it wrong as i can only just remember that someone on here had a similar problem because the drops links are different lengths depending if you are phase 1 ,1.5 or 2, as the wrong one can touch and knock on the wishbone in certain circumstances......maybe the wrong one has been fitted for your model??.....

Same issue except also any right hand turning at low speed (ie carparks). Clunk, followed by nothing until another right turn close to full lock. Started the week after I had the brake pads and tires replaced/wheels aligned. Took it back asap and since been to another mechanic (trusted friend, but mazda workshop) and nothing detectable. Wheel alignment is fine but we drive on dirt roads to get home so could there be suspension/suspension attachment issues?
Sounds similar to your clunking.

rephrase - the history and timing sounds similar to your clunk.

After doing some more searching, it could be that the mount and strut could be out of alignment. I say this as my mechanic friend didn't have the specific alignment instructions with him when he put it back together.

I'll ask him to look but it will bet a couple of weeks due to his holidays.

I have a similar problem, when the front coil spring was replaced.
On full lock when parking there is a noise. I have jacked the car up so weight is off strut. The coil spring can be rotated backwards and forwards away from the bottom stop.Is there a problem with the top mount?

Finally got round to looking at this last weekend.

Had another look and everything was lined up ok.
We turned the top mount anticlockwise one place, put it back together, went for a test drive and still clunk.
Turned another place anticlockwise, and still the same clunk.

We came to the conclusion that the noise must be coming from the gas strut, as nothing else wa moving, spring seated correctly, and no signs of rubbing anywhere.

A few days later I noticed that the clunk had disappeared. Success, but we don't know why

Have the same problem with my V40. Took it to the "Suspension Guys" today and found out that it is the bearing, but Volvo has said that the Spring Seat, Bearing and Insulator (Top Strut Mount) should all be replaced. The work is booked in for this Friday and will let you know the outcome. It is parts 7, 8 & 10 (part 9 comes with part 10) in the diagram below.
