Broken V40 wants to be donor for other broken V40s
Yes, it's happened - timing belt broke and pulleys ripped apart causing terminal damage to the engine so it's time to go to V40 heaven (rather that than the hell of a scrap yard) so is there a place where 'she' who used to be so reliable and dependable can go to be used for spares or to someone who wants to do a rebuild job (if that's possible).
She's mechanically sound other than a broken heart! Good general condition except for passenger side door and sill where she was scraped along by a trailer a year or so ago. I've been offered £250 for her and am about to accept unless she might be more valuable to someone else. She's Blueberry, X reg Sept 2000. 60,000 miles only (as if that matters now!) Any offers considered - any advice about potential buyers welcome - otherwise I'll accept the £250 next week. Hope to hear from someone who LOVES Volvos!! Chris 07771 914216 |

Photos available
The car is a 1.6 petrol V40 (Blackberry colour) and there is also an (unfitted) towbar available. This will be included if anyone is prepared to pay around £200 to take it away.
The car could also be used as scrappage trade-in for anyone looking for a new car (then it's worth around £2000 in exchange) Photos available - let me know your email and i'll send promptly. Chris Last edited by Chrisoftheday; Jun 29th, 2009 at 11:06. Reason: additional info |

Sadly Chris this isn't the case, to use the scrappage scheme the car has to have been registerd in the part-exchangers name for at least 12 months and the new car must be registered in the same name.

That timing belt broke rather earlier than Volvo recomend changing them at - 90k change according to them. You got no come-back on them I suppose?

pretty sure the limit for timing belt is 80,000 miles or 8 years, age is just as important as mileage. my car is 01 Y plate and only on 47,000 miles, still needs timing belt doing soon though

It is 90k though on mine, had it checked when I bought it and Volvo confirmed the change interval. |

I haven't even explored this as yet - assuming the main dealer from whom it was bought would say that as they haven't serviced it themselves there is no responsibility on their part - what do others think - am I missing out on getting some kind of help to get it repaired? If the engine is shot as a result of the belt going and the car is almost 9 years old is there ANY chance of the main dealer taking responsibility?
All help gratefully received. Chris |

I'd forgot the 8yrs clause, so I'd be extremely surprised if a dealer would budge based on this.... if it had always been serviced there they might be a little more helpful because they'd know the car, on the other hand, they would have also said that it needed changing a year ago.
Have you had confirmation the engine is completey useless now? Try the webuyanycar website... you never know what you might get |

Thanks - Have already used Webuyanycar.com and found after initially getting a quote of £250 that the car has to delivered to them and then when they understood that the engine was shot reduced the quoted (online) offer to £100 - hardly worth the effort of towing it ten miles only to have them reduce it again (as is likely).
I would ahve thought a keen Volvo owner (or independent engineer) might have wanted to either rebuild or use it for parts -seems such a waste to scrap it. Any offers? before it's goes...? |
