Default V60 D2 high fuel consumption

Hi, my V60 2014 shows average consumption in town at 36-38 mpg which I can see is pretty high. I drive very economically rarely exceeding 40 mph. Could I have some advice how to improve it? Thank you.

It's about what I'd expect from my D4 around town. All that accelerating and braking takes its toll.

my D2 is the same. But taking mileage and filling tank to top proves mines getting 46 - 50 around town without using it as a track car!
incidentally my shown average speed don't ever change it always reads 18mph too

I think this is pretty good. I have V60 D5 auto and around town (moderate traffic) it drinks about 9l/100km thats low 30s mpg. If crawling in start stop traffic consumption gets even worse and trip computer shows 10.5-11l/100km thats mid 20s mpg.

I have also noticed recently that my momentary consumption was abnormally high 1.8-2l/h and normally its 0.7-0.9l/h. This lasted whole journey around 30miles (1h) and even though I put my foot down a couple of times going stupid fast I eneded up burning crazy amount of fuel. The bar graph showed an average over 60km 10.5l (26-27mpg).

Could this be something about DPF regen? I could hear an unknown subtle noise (similar to a working hoover). I must note that on the way back it all went back to normal. Consumption was good. Same route, low traffic and car consumed 5.5l/100km (stead drive, not much traffic with cursing speed around 75mph) Consumption when stationary 0.8l/h

You should have a look at your car if it does it too. This could explain unusually high consumption. Unless there is something wrong with the car and I am not aware of this

Has anybody else noticed similar thing driving your diesel cars?

Can't say I notice any change in my car's behaviour during an active DPF regen, not even the mpg falling (although logically more fuel must be being consumed). However I can infer when an active regen is in progress from the stop/start becoming inactive due to an 'engine system' issue that lasts just over 20 minutes when cruising on motorways.

I can easily confirm how many miles ago my car last performed a DPF regen using the 'Car Scanner' app (and the current soot and ash loading). The app would also tell me when an active regen was actually in progress, but I don't like to drive around with the ELM327 adaptor plugged into the diagnostic port as it sometimes screws with the dashboard display.

I think it was the dpf but I've got no access to diagnostic device to confirm it. I was just shocked how much it increased fuel consumption it seemed to last fairly long as the journey lasted around an hour. I have noticed on the M3 when I sat on 75mph on cruise control that momentary consumption is 8.5-8.7l/100km ( mid 30s mpg) Pretty high for an empty car, isnt it? Similar situation after a couple of hours and obviously an engine restart indicated consumption 5.9-6.2l/100km. Strange.

ELM327 interfaces are very, very cheap (mine was £2.60) and the Car Scanner app was free (at least for Android). You should get something like this!
