Morning judder in first gear
Hi,
I have recently bought a 2016 Manual R design XC60 - Diesel D4 2.0. Its booked in with Volvo (not at my expense) this week. I have an issue in the morning! On pulling away the car will judder once or twice. It seems like it is starved of fuel for a split second and the car then runs fine once its warm and then on for the rest of the day. Im thinking injectors? Filters? Plugs? Air locks? Something. Another symptom related to this would again be first thing in the morning, I will/can sit in neutral and slightly rev. As I do you can feel a shake in the car at about 1500 revs. Nothing major but feels like something is struggling but then eases off. I have looked at similar threads and can't say I have found one similar to this with a car so new. Any suggestions? My concern is that the dealer I bought the car from are taking it to Volvo - under warranty and not much will get done. I want the ammo to challenge Volvo around what they have done or haven't done. Hopefully it will get fixed without issue! Thanks From a new Volvo owner. |

Hi benr7310,
I call it a judder however it is quite 'violent' like the car is kangarooing. I initially thought clutch but now thinking its a sudden loss of fuel/power? |

Is it worse on colder mornings? I'm thinking the water trap in the diesel filter is full and needs draining and/or needs a new fuel filter. Should have been done at the service but could have been missed.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. its on 31000. Looking at the Sat Nav history whoever had it before liked going to France. Not really noticed Laird Scooby whether its worse on colder mornings due to only having it a number of weeks. You could be right though! |

Update:
The car has been with Volvo since last Friday. In short they have plugged it in which they say has revealed some codes however not enough for them to actually diagnose what it is. They have a process where they have to speak to 'Volvo technical' who then advise them what to do. They then did another test with it plugged in whilst driving. Again codes which have been sent to Volvo Technical. They have said the top of the engine needs stripping, including injectors etc to carry out some more checks which again will have to be sent off to Volvo Technical where again we will have to wait for an update. Frustrating. Mechanic suggests air related issues but not overly sure. All other pressures etc have been tested and seem fine. Continues! |

I really hope I get a.........
So the pressure in the air cylinders is not quite up to scratch so they are stripping the top of the engine off to check the cylinders in more details. Still under warranty - they could just say new engine? Who knows. |

So the car is still with Volvo. Having a new engine fitted! On warranty and at no expense to me.
Volvo make no decisions on the ground. They send codes etc off to Volvo Technical who dictate what happens next. Im not overly sure what the fault is. I do know its engine related (bores/cylinders) obviously and they were measuring it etc. Hope this helps anybody that may have similar issues in the future. |
