The FWD model is called the XC60 2.4D DRIVEe

There is also an XC70 2.4D DRIVEe but the info Volvo just sent me dosn't say whether it's FWD or AWD, although they do quote the same fuel consumption for both models.

34 / 37.7 Mpg Combined

Sounds all good to me. In-gear performance should be good as new engine now have a Bi-Turbo setup.
Big price increase though .... D5 AWD SE Lux increased from 29,050 OTR to 30,745 OTR that's a £1695 increase!

Yes, first Volvo indicated a £750 increase and now, as you say, it became £1695.

BUT, according to Volvo, the residuals are supposed to be much better.

When I changed my order from a MY2009 to MY2010 my dealer told me there was a £750 price increase so that is the price I ordered my car at

I test drove the 185PS D5 last weekend in the XC60 and was pretty underwhelmed. Was thinking of ordering the 175PS D4 but it looks like I'm gonna go for the 205PS D5 now. Does anyone have any comments to sway me either way on my choice of new engine as the maximum torque ranges appear to have been extended down to 1500rpm. The new D5 does cost a lot more - I'm not a power freak - just need a decent response when I pull away from a junction.

Well, I have had the "previous" 163 bhp 2.4D as a rental in Sweden several times and it is not slow at all. All cars have been auto by the way. Plenty of oomph. I would imagine that even the "old" D5 with 185 bhp should be fine too.

All about if you want the power or not. BUT, by not having it, I think you would always regret it.

I agree. I am impressed by my D5 185bhp. Floor it and it really shifts. 0-60 is not fantastic but is certainly respectable.

Ok - I've decided on the D4 175PS - anyone have any views on lack of AWD - will I miss it for 100% onroad driving?

That's the one I've gone for too - my view was the reduction in weight and noise thro' not having the rwd drive train - increased economy and lower tax status - to me was the ideal....... and to be honest who actaully uses the 4wd in their commute - I would not....

It's hard to miss something if you've never had it. There may be the odd occasion when AWD will get you out of a sticky situation, snow being the most obvious example, but also any other situation when traction is at a premium e.g. cornering in the wet. Depends how hard you like to push your car but you will reach the limit of FWD traction before you reach the limit of AWD traction in certain situations.

My wife and daughter tow a horse box in out of muddy fields so for us, FWD was essential.
