Smile My 1987 Volvo 240 GL

Hi:

I´m a new member from Spain.

This is my Volvo 240 GL, my nearly dead father brougth it new in 1987 when his old 244 GL called for a change.

Now I want to preserve her as a tribute to my father.

Also you can see the pictures of the other Volvos in my family, my father in law has a Volvo 460 1800i and my brother had a 480 ES.

Welcome to the 200 series section. We actively try to help anyone here with their 240s. It is a lovely tribute to your father to preserve the car. I hope that youy will continue to use it. If ever you need any help please ask.

Mike

Thanks for your answer Mike.

Of course, I'll drive often my Volvo, she is in perfect order to drive as you can see for the photos, preserve her stopped in the garage is a nonsense. She loves to drive.

First at all I want to buy a service & repair manual, I'm looking for it in , Emule, eBay and e-shops. It´s the Haynes one really the best?

Regards

The Haynes is quite good but does tend to cover complete strip down and rebuild rather than replacement of a specific part. The forum is always very good though for diagnosing problems, advice on how to repair and help obtaining parts.

Right on mate. It is a realy good tribute. I bought mine when my dad was gonna buy a new car an I could not bear to see it go to a builder who would not look after it. I'm glad you drive it to. Mine is off the road at the moment an I miss it teribaly. There is a manual by a company called "Peter Russek" That is rearly good. Best of luck Steve Curtis

The Haynes book is good. I also like the Bentley book; "Volvo 240 Service Manual: 1983-1993", with its 544 pages and 882 illustrations. As it is aimed at the US market it does not cover carburators though.

For what it's worth, I found that the old edition of the Haynes book covers the Solex Cisac carb in your car better than what the new edition does.
