Default 240 idle motor

Hello from across the pond!

I decided to take a shot at doing the routine fuel injection maintenance on my '92 240. So, I cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the idle motor (at least I guess I cleaned it; I sprayed cleaner down into it) and replaced the flame trap. New plugs, rotor, cap. Runs like a champ at highway speed.

However, it still wasn't idling well, which was the original complaint. On a chance, I disconnected the idle motor and started it. Idles beautifully. So, the question is: until I can sort out what's going on, am I doing damage by running it with the idle motor disconnected?

Thanks,

monty

Not really but the ECU now knows the ICV is not there and has modified the running parameters. Remove the valve and place 12 volts across the two pins and the valve should rotate to the end stop. If you was to test it further apply 6V and the valve should be approximately 50 open. You can clean it whilst your there. Replace the valce and remember to clear the ECU fault codes. Check all vacuum pipes and establish that the bbake servo is not leakin air. Remove the pipe and block it off whilst ticking over to see if it effects the tick over. Regards Peter

Further Measure the resistance of each HT lead including the King lead form brass end piece to brass end piece. Come back the results. they should all be close and about 3k from memory. Regards Peter
