Default High beam not working

I have a problem with the light relay, not holding when engaging the high beam lights when pulling the switch towards driver into 3rd position... and yes, the main light switch is positioned at 12 o'clock

I have removed the turn signal/high beam switch, cleaning the copper traces on the backside of the PCB. The leaf spring connectors were cleaned as well and bent just slightly more, as they were somewhat dirty. I have also used a multimeter in order to try to check the connection, but I was not able to trace it all the way through, so I'm not entirely sure if the switch work.

I have also tried checking the main light switch to the left. The three microswitches on the PCB work - also tried unplugging it entirely, just to see if it made any difference. It didn't.

A third option might be the relay. However, I can't seem to locate it - only hear it when it engages.

So - I could buy a new main light switch as well as a new turn signal/high beam switch, but I might end up, replacing already working switches and wasted money... so before I do that, can you give me some advice, please?

It would help if you stated what model and year you car is, as it makes a difference with regards to the CEM.

You're quite right - sorry about that.
It's a 2001 Volvo S60.

Default Problem solved

It turned out that it was the main light switch unit, that was faulty. A replacement unit solved the problem.

There is a fourth possibility, the shunts on the back of the CEM, they are prone to overheating which oxidises the contacts which then makes the contact very poor. Taking them out and cleaning impoves the situation. Replacement shunts are available from Volvo but are on back order so may take a few days to arrive.

Use this link for a "how to".
