Just wondering if any manual XC60 2010 D5 owners can tell me where the electronic park brake switch is located. My mate test drove a 2009 model this weekend and said its on the dash to the right of the steering whell ? I thought it was on the steering wheel column behind the wheel or is that just auto's or am I totally mistaken ?

Slightly confused now !

cheers

Andy

The handbrake sits just below the headlight/foglight switch and is in fact, a button. On or off. Same on manual as auto.

Does anyone with an auto use this 'hand brake'?

I never do as there is no chance of the vehicle moving when in P and any other time I am in the car with my foot on the brake or accelarator

Any ideas when it would be required to use it with an Auto gearbox?

Nope.

No need to use a handbrake when driving even on a manual car. But this is the way I learned to drive....

I think that I would use it with a manual - hill starts and parking. You should use it when parking a manual as the gearbox could be in nuetral which means that without a handbrake the car would be free to move With an auto gearbox it cannot move in P as there are no epicyclic bands braked which therefore provides a physical locking of the drive drain within the gearbox

I was also taught to use the handbrake when parking and still look (occasionally) for it in the XC60, though it was quite wasy to lose the habit
