Volvo 740 Mint, 1 owner (fair price?)
Hi
I've come across a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE Auto, mint, 1 owner from new, 58000 miles, £1500, in silver, does this sound like a fair price. Thanks in advance for your advice. Gareth |

Seems a bit high, but I guess they are getting rarer now in good condition. Estate or saloon?

It’s a Saloon, at a dealer, loads of history old MOTs etc, According to the vendor all that’s wrong with it are a couple of spots of bird lime on the bonnet, trouble is it's in Bournemouth, bit of a trek from Halifax if it’s a clunker.

Saloons aren't worth as much as the estates as you probably know, so £1.5k is probably a bit steep. Maybe if it was a turbo that price would be more justified.
Machanically it could be a bit dodgy if its just done loads of short journeys all its life, so you would be best checking it out first which is tricky as you say! |

Price hike
Several nice 740 saloons have gone on eBay of late at £400-odd. If a car is worth what you could sell it for then £1500 seems too much. If you want the security of dealer sale then perhaps it's worth it. 300 miles is a long way to take it back if something ain't right though!
As a rough rule it seems that a good 240 saloon will fetch between £500 and £1000, a good 740 not more than half that just now. Depends how badly you want a 740, but I reckon £1500 is a bit steep. Cheers Jack |

my 740 saloon is spot on inside and out, OK its not a GLE spec, but its in fantastic condition, with amazing service history, and i paid £120 for it Saloons are not worth the money that the estates command.

thanks for the advice guys, the chaps just put the price up (?) to £2000 so I think I'll give it a miss, the search continues.
