I have a 1988 740 Turbo Intercooler Estate 182bhp. It tows my 1310kg Elddis with ease. Compared to my previous V70 D5 163bhp it wins with its far superior steering lock and RWD traction, however 18mpg vs 32mpg is going to make the South of France an expensive trip.

just done my first run withour caravan, we drive an '04 XC90 D5 manual and its got 163bhp.

i live near Redcar and drove to a site at Lealholm on the north york moors. some very steep roads around there and lots of junctions etc...
it returned 22mpg but thats gotta be a worst case. not much cruising on that run at all....

i hope to see better in most other occasions

Nice outfit and just out of interest what do you get mpg wise whilst towing because i sometimes think the really powerful towcars have less difference between solo and towing than their more economical counterparts.

Darryl
Your right darryl i get anything from 18 to 20mpg towing and probably around 25mpg solo on urban roads but i must admit i dont take a lot of notice and these days the xc90 does quite low mileage.

Darryl, now probs, it was called Wild Slack Farm http://www.wildslackfarm.co.uk/

Martin the farmer was superb, he was calfing and called us over twice to see litterally 10 min old calfs being licked clean by mother cow....we we're impressed but our 2 year old Daniel was amazed...brilliant. £12/nite inclusive was a good rate too.
highly recommended.
