Cars sold in the US market had to be fitted with "Federal Safety Bumpers" between 1973 and 1982, which lead to imported European cars having to be modified with large, heavy, ugly bumpers to comply. I don't know the actual dimensions for the Volvos you quote, although I'm sure you could find them with a bit of googling, but the answer is almost certainly yes, the US market versions would have been a few to several inched longer because of the federal bumpers.

Plenty of very attractive European car designs ended up looking pig-ugly in their US versions when the original design bumpers had been replaced with what looked like massive bolt-on afterthoughts

volvo europe started early 80-ies with modern bumpers which up till that moment looked very similar to the USA versions. But USA kept using the same alloy bumpers till 85 or there-abouts. Normally the USA alloy bumpers w're painted black during this period.

he knew that there were several aspects that distinguished them. Illuminated signs on the rear sides, easily replaceable headlights. but the difference in the dimensions between the bumpers is that I didn’t discover anything in concrete
