clock bezel removal for a turbo , real Blue Peter stuff?
Ok, this all started as a kid when I saw a Saab99 Turbo with that boost gauge pod on the dash top.Fast forward on a few decades and it is perfect period stuff for our 265. I've even bought a genuine pod from a Saab enthusiast.
Next step is the boost gauge. I have saved one from the donor 740 turbo that I pulled the engine from in the sleet before the lockdown. I can adapt the 740 gauge to fit in an old 240 clock-the round sort, standard 52 mm thing. Problem is how to get the bezel off the clock without massacring it? I have a couple of not too precious clocks that I can cannibalise. Possibly cut through the body and collapse it so the bezel can pop off unmarked? How to get it back on though? Of course, I could just buy a nice ebay gauge that packs up after ten miles, but Id prefer to stick with decent Volvo stuff. Any ideas, please? Thanks. Why not buy a nice Volvo 240 boost gauge? They’re the same as the clock and will fit behind a standard clock facia trim.

Ok, makes sense- I didn’t realise it was an earlier car.
If the dash top pod is designed for a 52mm gauge, then the Volvo one I linked to will fit into it... Or am I missing something? Cheers |

Yes, it would be ideal. If only it wasn't in America.
I already have a standard Volvo boost gauge from the 740 turbo 1988 which id like to use if i can.I dont need exact readings, just an idea of when it is huffing and puffing-though that should be obvious by the rapid acceleration too. Im using a redundant 240 time clock casing to house the previously inst panel mounted gauge which is where it all gets a bit Blue Peter. If I can refit the bezel then mission accomplished. If not then its time to do a bit of transatlantic shopping. Thanks for your input, I'm sure there will be loads of daft questions when I start putting the car back together after it gets back from paint. Jim. |
