Make sure it's not tyres. My Goodyear Wranglers get noisy as they age and wear down and it sounds on certain smooth road surfaces like a droning wheel bearing. I am changing brand for that reason when they are due for replacement!

As Mentioned, i also had rear noise as you described, i read somewhere it can be caused by uneven tyre wear. My rear tyres had low tread (2mm) compared to the fronts which where about 4mm, i put 4 new pirelli on and noise disappeared.

Cheers Ian

I had the same with mine when the tyres were approaching end of life.
Nothing from the Cross Climates that are on it now

Other thing that did initially throw me was the AWD system does growl a bit when trolling about at slow speed (say up to 20mph) & I think others on here have mentioned they all do it, it's the Haldex pump IIRC

As above sounds like the noise I had from my tyres.

Lived with it for 12 months as I was determined not to replace perfectly good tyres because of a noise. Made it end of lease, 85,000 miles on the original rear tyres. That was quite impressive I felt.

Tyre drone is certainly an issue on the V60:- https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=291536

I have the same on my 2010 T6 ...

It seems that it is a rear differential problem - common in 2009 / 2010 models which shared the Freelander 2 drive mechanicals (legacy of Ford's ownership of both LR and Volvo). Look in LR / Freelander forums and note that it is a VERY common problem in the Freelander 2 of those model years.

The freelander forums also explain why it is a problem, and how it was fixed in later years ... which means it was also fixed in the later XC60's.

Hi yes as I stated Main Dealer in Ipswich wanted £5400 just for parts yes £5400 labour extra , I spoke to a friend he said try " Last Transmissions" near Ipswich , Suffolk . all been done , I got a detailed Invoice (as an retired garage Owner I understood the Invoice ,plus the garage put on a new o/S/R coil spring, all for including the dreaded VAT £1200 yes £1200 . If you live far away it pays to think about having a night in a Hotel!!
