V50 completely dies when trying to start
Hello all, well our V50 2.0d (56 plate) is certainly making us feel like we're living on the edge. For several weeks now it has, occasionally, completely died when you turn the key to start the car. The engine doesn't turn, just all the electrics go and it's as if the battery has been disconnected. It can come spontaneously back after a few minutes with no warning, and sometimes I can find that opening and closing the fusebox/relay box next to the battery can make things come back (though it might be coincidence). Could it be a dodgy relay? How do I check if a relay is on the way out?
In addition, drove to the supermarket yesterday and turned the key to switch off the engine - nothing, kept going with all electrics on. Had to remove the key to switch it off. Related? Hmmm... Any help gratefully received!! |

I've tightened it and will see if that makes a difference. Would a poor connection lead to the power failure when attempting to start? Is there a circuit breaker, or similar, that trips if the current draw is too high for the connection?
