Volvo V50 engine questions HELP
Hi all,
So I'm looking at replacing my 2005 2.0TDI V50. Been a brilliant car over the years with 140k on the clock. Now it's time to retire her and seek another. I'm somewhat confused about all the Diesel engines now available. My current interest lies with a 2011 registered 1.6TDI Drive model. However , I'm unsure exactly what to expect from said engine. There are horror stories aplenty here around carbon issues resulting in failed turbos, horrendous MPG claims, DPF changes with fluid too ups etc. Therefore for a V50 drive 1.6TDI registered Sept 11 (6 forward gears), does it have a wet DPF system that requires fluid at 35k and new DPF @ 70k Is the engine a D2 ? Is it 8v or 16 ? Is there anything else I should be worried about. Currently on 32k with four previous Volvo main dealer services : 28/09/2015 - 23338 miles 30/09/2014 - 20296 miles 25/09/2013 - 13510 miles 26/09/2012 - 6865 miles No service in two years I note , due another right... Please help before I make up my mind 😘 Thanks |

Can't be much help with the D2 info (apart from all the same horror stories), but if you can stretch the budget a little I would defo recommend a D3 brilliant engine, most importantly its a Volvo engine, best diesel engine I've driven (I've had various ford/vauxhall/lexus diesels and the D3 is head and shoulders above them), and remapped it's potent yet still get really good mpg.

Hi, thanks for the post.
D3's quite hard to find for sale having looked on auto trader and the bay. Agree this would be the best but options limited out there currently. Cheers |

A 2011 car with 6 speed gearbox will have the 1.6 8 valve D2 engine which has a dry system dpf so does not require fuel additive or dpf replacement.
I agree with the above post that a D3 would be a better option if you can find one for sale. |
