Default C30 2.0d headlights error

Hi everyone!

I'm new here so allow me to introduce myself :-)
I've had a little experience with driving Volvos before. Learned how to drive with a Volvo 480 ES (1.7) since my father is crazy about these cars. He has an ES 2.0, Turbo GT manual and automatic at the moment :-D. So when I saw the first concept C30 it was love at first sight. Now, several years later I finally bought a C30 2.0d (191.000km) I love the car but it is giving me some problems as well, which, being a succesor of the 480 is not that surprising ;-)

First of all I had the 'anti skid service required' - message, which pops up now and then. It's been a while now though so I'm not giving that to much attention.

I had to replace the Xenon headlights and the right one has been giving me problems ever since. At first it went well for a while, no errors, then it started turning off with following errors:
- CEM-8A09: low beam right faulty signal
- CEM-8A29: Gas discharge lamp module right faulty signal
So I switched the 2 bulbs and then te problem was at the left headlight. So I went to the shop, got a replacement and the problem was fixed for a while, Now, after 2 months, same problem on the right headlight.
After restarting the car the headlight is on again btw but wil turn of quite quickly.
Did anyone experience anything like this before?

Then next error: engine service required message + limp mode once in a while.
I get following errors:
- ECM-2452 and ECM-2453: Pressure sensor particulate trap faulty signal
So I replaced the sensor, took a look at the tubes to the DPF which looked good, took a look at the filter itself which is clean on the inside, Additive level is at 12/15 so that good too. So I'm not sure what to do next.
Anyone any ideas?
I have a volvo VIDA btw.

Now last error: I notice a clicking sound when I release the clutch when shifting. could this be the flywheel and is this something that now will break soon or could I drive on with this?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Hans

Hi, welcome.
With regards to the Headlight issue, it sounds possibly, the ballasts are starting to play up. Do you find the bulb goes out (warning light comes on) approximately 2-3 min after start up ? Mine did !. If you have DRL, and light goes out,! While its running, put the switch to sides, cancel warning, switch back to off (DRL) and the lights will often be ok until you restart again.
Both of mine went at around 100k, within 3 months of each other.(06 V50) Bought new ones at around £ 85 each though, from Germany.

Hi BJB,
Thans for Your reply. This is exact wat happens. After couple of minutes the light turns off.. I do have DRL. Do I turn it of just by flicking the switch for the lights to '0' and then back? Will try this tomorrow.. Will try to replace the ballast.. found them indeed for 85euros. Any idea on the dpf story?

Your link shows an IGNITOR that fits onto the bulb, NOT a Ballast, which is mounted under the wing (front) behind the inner wing cover. (Check out Part No 1 307 329 098)
I haven't had experience with the DPF or DMF (dpf not fitted to my V50, luckily) but I'm sure someone will put you in the right direction.....

In terms of the DPF, you say the car has done 191,000 Km. Has the DPF ever been replaced? It should have had the DPF replaced at 120,000 Km and if it wasn't replaced then I'd be prepared to bet that you need to replace your DPF.

I didn't replace ours at 75,000 miles (120k Km) and it lasted until 104,000 miles before it had to be replaced. No amount of re-gen attempts would fix it.

Hi iainmd,

Thanks for the reply!
Yes, it has been replaced at 120.000km so filter should be fine. Looked clean inside as well. If it would be defect I would see a lot of soot in the filter or not?

Does anyone else maybe have some input on the flywheel and DPF issues?

Quick update on the headlights issue. I found somewhere on the forum that it could help to open up the ballast and clean it with pure alcohol. So I did this and what do you know, the xenon lamp did not turn on anymore at all.. Switch the bulb to the other side and it didn't turn on either. So I ordered the ballast (FYI https://www.lichtex.de/xenon-steuerg...ting/a-329098/) after driving home I noticed het bulb turned on normally.. So I'm gonna give it another week and if no problems occur, send the unit back..
