P2585 is "Fuel Additive Control Module Warning Lamp Request"
Sounds like your EOLYS fluid is low or run out. If so, it'll need to be refilled, but you'll also need someone with VIDA to reset the Additive Dosing Module to tell the car that it has been topped up. You say a mechanic scanned the car and told you the code. Did he not tell you what it meant? I know he obviously doesn't have VIDA, but he should have been able to look up the code to explain it to you. EDIT: I realise that you may not be familiar with what I'm talking about. In case you don't know, EOLYS fluid is an additive that is used to aid the combustion of soot in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) of certain diesel engines. The DPF is part of the exhaust system, and is a filter designed to trap soot and stop it being emitted in the exhaust fumes. When the DPF fills up, it needs to burn off the soot to clear itself. The fluid is housed in a small tank under the back of the car. If it runs out, the DPF can't burn the soot (regenerate), and it gets blocked up, causing the car's performance to be reduced. It's a common system on certain 1.6 and 2 Litre engines designed by PSA an used extensively on various Fords, Volvos, Citroens, Peugeots and others around 2008-2011. So experienced mechanics will be familiar with it. Your mechanic will have been using a generic code scanner, which is fine for pointing in the general direction, but has limitations on Volvos. There's a Volvo specific system called VIDA/DICE that gives much more accurate and specific diagnostic information for Volvos. Volvo dealers will have it, as will independent Volvo specialists. The official setup is very expensive, but many enthusiasts (such as some here on this forum) purchase cracked copies on Ebay and the like for home use. Hope no one minds me reviving an old thread, but I have exactly the symptoms as the OP on my '09 C30 1.6D with 115k miles.
The warning message appeared when started the engine yesterday, I read the code today when I got back home. It's not really a big surprise that the message has come up, based on the miles that the car has done but it was a surprise yesterday morning out of the blue. I wondered, does anyone have experience of changing the EOLYS on a C30, is the message some thing that needs to be attended to right now, or is it notification that something needs to be done soon? Thanks in advance. |
