Default New to volvo and need advice

Hi guys,
just joined as I need some advice if you would be so kind.
The missus needs a new car and has fallen in love with the xc60, we visited our local dealer yesterday and she saw a 1yr old lux geartronic but at £30k it's out of our price range,
So we are looking for one with a budget of*£15-£16k but I confess I know nothing about these, so what do we look out for and what do we avoid, also as many toy as possible
Oh and she needs to tow the horses around as well
Thanks in advance

I have towed horses aropund with this XC60 and the previous one which was a 'mere' 205 bhp

I would recommend that you look at an D5 AWD version around 3-5 years old which should give you a good car for a sensible price. The price will depend on the model and extras that are fitted. The stock tyres tend to be summer slicks and you may want to consider getting some all season which give better grip on the fields, but the AWD means you have excellent control when pulling the animals.

there are lots of dealers in Hampshire Snows (Basingstoke & Winchester, Cambridge (Portsmouth and Petersfield) and if you are near Surrey then you have Squire Furneaux (Pirbright).

I have dealt with all of them at different times and wouldn't recommend one ove the other

Nelly,

Personally, I would get a D4 and then Polestar it.

It will be cheaper to buy in the first place, will tow easily and be as fast as a D5 (when Polestarred), but more importantly the remap changes the geartronic changes and driveability so much that it would be a vast improvement on a stock D5.

Of course, you could always Polestar a D5.........but then you have the initial expense on top as well.

Basically, anything "Lux" gives quite a few toys.
"Lux Nav" is self-explanatory.

Not sure about toys to be avoided, but some on here don't like the auto boot (I like it personally).

Toys to definitely have, for me, are:

DSP
HK Sound System
Winter Pack
Heated Steering Wheel (one of the few options I don't have, but really want)

I wouldn't spec a Volvo from now on without the above, albeit I might forego the Heated Steering Wheel if I bought second-hand (as I did this time buying nearly new), as not many come with it.

Will make a d4 'sportier' but will also put the power in the wrong place for towing

'stock' d5 has the power in the right place for moving horses gently, very different from towing a caravan or trailer.

I don't understand that..........the Polestar upgrade provides more torque across the entire rev range and a longer peak.

How is that not better for towing?

re Toys, the reversing camera is pretty close to being a survival aid, unless you are a reversing genius. Also useful for aligning the tow hook with the trailer. You may be able to get one to add to the car but check with the Volvo dealer.
