Removal of lock cylinder from 544
How do you remove the lock cylinder out of the door of a 544?

Yes, the video was very useful. It helped with the order of how to put the interior back together. How do you get the locks out if you do not have a key?

Ah, always a problem. A good drill to take out the centre of the lock and a replacement with key. Some PV's only have a lock on the driver's side so you'd only have one to replace but they are usually sold in pairs.
PM me a usable email address and I will try and get a set of the Volvo green books for PV to you via drop box or a similar large file service. |

If you can get the door open, in the door edge level at the lock and likely hidden under the weatherstrip is a hole. There is a locking screw in there. Find the appropriate screwdriver, remove and pull the lock assy out.
Find a lock smith to get a new key made or replace the assy. I managed to get keys made. Pete

I see this illustration of an old Volvo door lock being removed with a fountain pen nib. I have a 1965 544, whose door locks don't seem to have a hole where that little indent is located. There's nothing to push on.
Yet the Briggs & Stratton parts catalog from 1965 shows cylinders available as replacement parts. Has any of you ever actually removed the core from one of these door locks? If so, can you tell me what year of car it was? I'd love to see a photo of a disassembled lock or a well-illustrated procedure. |
