my dads restoring a recently rescued 1800SE. the poor old girl realy isnt well and i am convinced that few people would regard her as anything other than a parts department. still, he has the inclination to go for it so fair play to him! its a `71 gold manual+overdrive with rather rusty sills, doors, wings, well lets face it-rusty everything save the fuel filler cap!
all the pannels apear welded, any advice on the removal and replacement of pannels such as wings and a good source of parts?

Any welded panels can be cut off using a motorised hacksaw or disc cutter. Leave a piece of the removed panel to weld the new panel to, any necessary filling can be done by either brazing or solder fill. Where th rust is only surface you may be able to have it plastic chip blasted to remove all the paint then sand blasted to remove all traces of rust. You can gain a lot of useful hints by watching Mark Evans tapes on the restoration of a Jaguar E-type entitled "A Car Is Reborn"
All the best, Peter.

Default RE: restoring 1800SE

You have to mean the ES, the estate version. Then again with your 1971 date it's an E (coupe) as ES began rolling 1972. Anyway, they are always worth saving as they look superb when done.

Check out my pages on how to attack bodywork. Email offline if you want any advice. Most parts and panels are available.

Good luck.
