D5 separate transmission without lifting engine out?
I've got what looks like the core plug failure with a beefy oil leak between my engine and transmission. Can I remove it to replace to plug and whatever gaskets are in there without lifting out the whole engine?
I would like to avoid that if possible :P I was wondering if it's possible to slide it sideways on a jack to get enough space to renew the seals and plug or even just drop it out the bottom without dropping the engine. Last edited by SynonymForTree; Dec 28th, 2021 at 16:01. |

In all honestly it is easier removing both engine and box together.... we done this to fix the core plug issue too

Note, also a good time to check engine mounts and the condition of the turbo. In
If pre 2006, may well be a good in opportunity to check the AWD spline drive too. John l |
