Hi all, have just got a XC90 for my wife (2007) I've already got a V70R. Her fuel flap is not locking and I've followed the process described above to no avail. However having a VIDE PC I then connected to the car and using diagnostics opened and closed the flap without an issue. So wiring, contacts or motor function seems ok. Got any ideas why the CL fail to lock but will unlock but via VIDE no fault found?

Any help/ideas gratefully accepted.

The flap does not lock immediately when you lock the car. This is to allow you to lock the doors whilst filling up. I think the delay is 10 minutes.

Thanks for the write up everyone.

My fuel door lock was making a whining / whirring noise which I thought was louder than I remembered it to be.

This post inspired me to remove and inspect it the fuel filler lock mech.

I removed it today (dead easy, no need to remove the inner panel), disassembled it and inspected it. All clean and dry.
I moved some of the clear grease around to re-lubricate the spindle, added a little bit of silicon spray to the sliding parts, and reassembled it and refitted.

The fuel filler lock does indeed lock 10min after the car is locked, so I locked the car, set a 15min timer, and had a cup of tea.

When I went back down to unlock it, I first checked the filler flap was locked - it was.
And then I unlocked it.
Much MUCH quieter than before.
You cannot even hear it moving over the noise of the rest of the car's lock actuators moving

So if your filler mech makes an audible whirring sound when you unlock it, then do some preventative lubrication like I did today.
Makes a HUGE difference. And hopefully a new lease on life for the motor.

Default fuel flap fix

Many thanks to Best Gear for his write up on this fix. I went to Fuel up the other day and could not open the flap So I followed this useful post and it works perfectly now.
