I understand the theory of that... But sounds like more pain than I want to imagine . Back to the idea of swapping just one set of gears internally to change just 5th I think.
I expect a suitable set of gears to swap exist in another volvo gearbox of a similar age, but finding out just what you needed would probably involve take a lot of gearboxes apart in the investigations stage better to go with a rebuild kit as mentioned above, although I haven't found a link for one online as yet. S. |

No. Have you thought about taller tyres or a longer diff.

Yikes, turns out gearboxes are fairly complicated then
Not sure about tyres or a diff yet, I started this thread wondering about the possibility of changing gear ratios in the gearbox as a possible solution to what I see as a slightly too short 5th gear resulting in the car revving quite high at motorway speeds. Have been pointed at a glt axle earlier in the thread, which might be the route I go down - certainly easier than changing gearbox internals or adding an overdrive! Cheers, S.
