Default Number plates

Morning, what would be the correct original style of number plates for a 71 car?

Pressed aluminium, black with aluminium letters were still legal and so were black with white letters. Front and rear. Most new cars by '71 though had white front and yellow rear reflective with black letters. Also mostly aluminium but some plastic.

"What makes a classic car? Since 2015 the DVLA has allowed any car over 40 years old to display the traditional black and silver number plates. This is a 'rolling '40 years so any car that is classed as a Historic class vehicle for taxation purposes."

Yeah I read that but was rather after what would have been fitted when new. Adam confirmed the plates he fitted are the correct style so leaving as is.

Yes '71 would have been the black/white or black/silver. At the time the change for new cars came in 1973.

It could equally well have been reflective. You had a choice at that time.

My father had a '71 145S and that had reflective plates from the dealer. I remember it was considered cool at the time to have the latest reflective plates.

I have the reflective ones with proud lettering. As you folk say it could have been these or the black/white ones in 71. I'll keep with what was regarded as cool at the time. :-)
