Key won't move to 'O'
2005 XC90, the key has seemed a bit sticky to move from I to O before removing, literally a couple of times previously, not regularly, but \I've just returned home, and despite 10 minutes fiddling it won't move so I can remove it.
Is anybody familiar with this problem (tried searching, but can't see a thread on here), and googling it seems to lead back to stuff about the shifter lock, which I'm assuming isn't the problem, since I can't get the key to position 'O'. |

Unfortunately you assume wrong. The shifter is most likely the cause, because you can only turn your key to pos 0, if your shifter is in "p" (safety precaution). And as this is a known fault, it seems likely.
Try what the threads you found suggest to solve the shifter problem and you will get the key to pos 0

As above, try shaking a little the shifter knob in P, just wiggle it and also depress the top unlock button a few times

great advice, thanks both. Went out this morning to have a look, battery was flat but hooked the car up to the charger, meanwhile took the centre box/top trim and shifter off, sprayed some silicone on the cable running down the side, worked like a charm.
Again, many thinks. |
