Arrow Internal compartment sensor

All,

So I have reduced my fault list on VIDA from 11 amber/red errors in July down to just 2!!! I have an absolute bee in my bonnet to sort these final two problems so I have a perfectly working 2007 MY Volvo XC90 D5 AWD (185 bhp) on 175,000 miles.

Many of you will probably say "don't bother they are minor" but I want the car in tip-top shape as I have my three children in her daily, I'm a single parent, and I'll be keeping her for the next few years for sure.

I feel if I look after her then she will look after me

So to my question:

1) My internal temperature sensor is not working and reports a low signal. I know that I need the battery off, then the central control module off for the centre consul / CCM and I also understand that the small fan unit sticking out of the back will be the faulty part. so my question is that once removed do I:

1) Check and clean it and hope that it is gunked up with dust and crap and will start to work? ( I don't this it will based on the fault code).
2) Buy a complete 2nd hand CCM replacement unit and hope the temperature sensor works?
3) Replace the temperature sensor on the back of the unit? (is this possible?)

I want the heating system to work to keep a sensible temperature in the car so help and comments welcomed, please.

Also, if you are interested, I also have the external sensor not working as the other fault and I have a replacement part ready to fit, I just need to take the scuttle off and replace this.

My only other jobs really are to replace the 2 front Flexi brake hoses as they have been advised on the last 2 MOT's that they are corroded. So while I replace these I will also push through new DOT5 brake fluid on all corners of the car to give me a fresh pedal.

Thanks as always for your time reading and replies.

Nigel.

Most likely the little thermistor located behind the vent has been broken by some over eager cleaner thinking it was a bit of dirt. The thermistor is the temperature sensor.

Get a replacement CCM from a wrecker, with an intact thermistor, and replace yours.

Of course, you should clean out any dust and dirt from the vents and fans whilst you have your’s apart...
