ecu information request
Iv found an Eprom imager/programmer in grandads garage, it is a STAG P301 device
does anyone know if the ECU's for our cars take eeproms or are they microchipped?, if they are eepromed, i could make copies/images if people wish/want for the cost of an empty chip and postage it would look like the thing labeled EB13 in this picture:

No idea mate. Probably doubtful TBH.
Although I have got the ecu from my breaker still knocking about, I could whip the lid off and have a look if you like? Very strange Siemens thing though!

Hi, see the thread below for little bits & bobs of info
http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/foru...hp?f=3&t=34017 Not all of the 400's came with EPROM chips (and none with EEPROM's as far as I know) I wanted to get into this but opened up my Jetronic ECU and found nowt to play with The EZK side of things might be worth a look though......? edit: that chip is an EPROM http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/e...doc/11001n.pdf

Ha ha ha, Yardy is here to stay!!
Yeah, I'll flip me lid when I get a chance. James, I think it was only the b18u that got a stand-alone, 1.8, n/a, spi.

I would imagine (though this is purely a guess) that given the only 400 series with a 60-2 flywheel is the B18FT) that everything else is Fenix 3. In which case, it's very similar to the F7R ECU I run, which can be modified. TunerPro has some profiles for the F7x engines, not sure if any B18x ones are known about.
I do have a B18 (F? might be U) ECU in the loft, the OTP Rom is in a slightly different place (same as you show in your orig pic) but it is certainly a ROM. Question is, what would you want to do with it? TunerPro does allow some nice real time data acquisition if you are looking to play, I've used it to tune individual bins by working out which were causing knock. For a stock car, I wouldn't tbh, depending on your interest an eprom programmer can do lots of interesting (depending on your level of geek obviously ) things, making unreleased old console cartridges becomes possible. F7R one

so far i have just got the programmer and a few roms already flashed, i havent got anything else like a link cable - rs232, but given the wiring diagram i can make up some rs232 wires.
I was hoping to just make copies of ROMS like orangemod or richmod or whatever the ECU's are hehe, if theres nothing we can do with B18U eprom, i guess its just a dead end - worth knowing for the rare occasion that might need it :P i would probably like to get my geek on, just wondering what to do with the programmer (unit only) lol I also have means of wiping ROMS aswell, see the window on your photo? that should be covered because they are light sensetive, and will turn corrupt or eventually just be empty.

Which is a daughterboard that takes the EPROM on the board and pulls all pins up to an onboard micro controller, flash rom and USB socket. The ECU had a hole milled in the side, so rather than having to erase the IC with a 20min UV exposure every time, I could just plug it into my laptop to update the map. The microcontroller deals with address matching, logging the amount of access each address has in the spare flash ROM area, meaning I could see if there was a large amount of activity in an area I didn't understand. Don't get too hung up about the UV windows (yes, always sticker them) but the odd 5 mins in normal light whilst you are sorting your life out/answering the phone etc won't hurt them, the Atmel 27C256 datasheet says at least 20mins at gas mark lots to make it forget! Good luck with it, when it all works it's stunningly satisfying!
