Default Black smoke on acceleration? Diesel V40

I have recently bought a V40 and although it does have high mileage it runs great, it does however have a fair amount of black smoke, not so much you can't see behind but enough to just notice. Is there anyway to clear it, I've seen products by Wynns (Wynn's Clean Burn Diesel Smoke Treatment) that claim they do, but do they work or what should I do? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve

Try millers power sport 4 or whatever its called now.

Sounds like theres not enough air getting in though, so check your air filter ect too. Also you could try diesel 10K its an intae cleaner so if the egr etc has bunged stuff up this will help.

Cheers graemedench, i will try the millers stuff, and will also be servicing the oil, air and fuel filter soon so that will hopefully help as well.
Sorry to sound dumb though, how do i clean the egr?

Thanks,

Steve
