Default 2009 Volvo S40 T5 Clutch

Hi All,

Last month i bought my first volvo , a 2009 S40 T5. Its a lovely car and pulls so smoothly through the rev range. I absolutely love it.

I do however have what i believe to be an issue with the car that i am hoping someone can help me with. When doing a quick gear change above 5000 rpm the clutch pedal sort of stays down for a second ( with my foot removed) and then springs back up. I have spoken with the garage who i purchased the car from and to cut along story short they have informed me that volvo have said its a "trait" of the S40 T5 engine. Now before i disagree with them it would be good to hear from other owners who have the T5 engine to find out if they have the same issue.

This isn't a 'trait' of these cars, a clutch should release when you release it.

I think there was a recall do do with plastic push rods on these?? wait around because there's some decent help on here including dealer knowledge so you should get a few more answers too.

That's certainly never happened on my T5. With 84,000 covered over 8 years I would have noticed it by now if it was a trait.

thanks for the reply guys.

I did see that there was a recall but according to volvo not on my particular car. I guess they are swinging the lead so to speak and hoping that i will say oh well.

The master cylinder , slave cylinder in the gearbox housing , and pipes have all been a factor in causing this , it might be worth changing the pipe from master cylinder to gearbox , it is in two parts . it is the cheaper option and easy to do . If there is a partial blockage it would stop the fluid returning to the reservoir fast enough .

I've had my 2005 S40 T5 since january and I've never had the issue you've described, sounds like they're trying to fob you off with the 'Trait' thing....
