Wonder if the tft upgrade through vdash may be an (expensive) solution.
Yes, I was told it needs to be permanent, but you can go through options on stalk, so changeable. Going down dial change route, cheapest, hopefully not too difficult

Do you need to find a Mph speedo to comply with regulations? Just wondering if an alternative solution might be a HUD speedometer that plugs into the OBD2 port. I've fitted one to my XC70 as I find the silver/black + red needle very difficult to read at a glance. The HUD, on the other hand, is extremely clear and not overly bright at night. One of the best 'upgrades' I've done.

I've located an instrument binnacle, just going to swop out, I believe any other solution needs to be hard wired into car and be permanent, thanks guys

I look at this for another car, not a Volvo, and found that because the model HUD I had selected had option buttons on it which could switch off the speed readings, it was not considered a legal speedometer and the car would fail the MoT.

Removal and refiitting of the instrument cluster is very easy. 4 screws, and a 10 minute job.

Here's a youtube video:

I replaced my old one for an R Design one. I have the old one if you fancy taking it off my hands - 2007 D5 UK version with miles.

Thank you Arnold, both for link and offer, as I'm only changing dials, shame to scavage a good binnacle for just those parts.

Final post, followed utube vid, 4 screws/4 clips, one 9 pin plug to remove whole binnacle, reverse process for replacement binnacle all done in 20 mins after a few checks, now have mph speedo!

Hi Parisien

Thanks for posting, I have a `09 V70 arriving from Japan in 4 weeks so this is helpful!

How much did you swap out? just the dial? Also I guess your odometer is still reading in kms?

Actually the whole binnacle, one plug at rear, kms total saved on ECU, not the speedo itself. Easy enough to separate the front section from back, just prise off 6 or so clips, if you want to swop out dial face only.
