Hi, I have some used carb bits. I could sell you the choke link rod plus the choke shaft+spring etc for £5+p&p. If interested, I can take a photo so you know what you are getting.

Carburettor Hospital sell a few NOS carb bits.

I have a paypal account, or you could send a cheque. P&P is about £1.50 for 1st class, though I can send it 2nd class (£1.30) if you prefer. Here are the bits...

You should receive the bits tomorrow. For future reference, it is better to send paypal payments as a personal gift so that the seller isn't charged a fee.

To fit the new choke shaft...
  • Undo the two slotted screws, being careful not to round the heads.
  • Slide out the choke flap.
  • Slide the two small spacer/washers along the shaft. They are a tight fit. As your carb is still fitted to the car, be really careful not to let the two spacers drop down onto the throttle flap.
  • Remove the shaft.
  • Slide in the new shaft, while at the same time fitting the spacers.
  • Slide the choke flap into the new shaft.
  • Screw in the two slotted screws.
  • Check that the flap operates smoothly.
The following passage is taken from my carb manual that I gave up writing last year. It explains basic checking and setting of the auto-choke when the carb is fitted to the car.

Depressing the pedal primes the auto-choke and closes the choke flap. If you are trying to start a cold engine in the correct way but still experiencing difficulty then it is time to see what is happening under the bonnet.
The best time to fault-find this problem is the day after the car has been driven, so that the engine would have warmed up (choke flap opens) and then cooled down fully (choke flap stays open until primed). Assuming this advice is followed; with the engine off, remove the black plastic air plenum and set it aside. Check to see that the choke flap is fully open. It should be if the car was driven until warm previously. Now, rotate the throttle pulley and watch the choke flap to see that it closes fully. If the flap doesn’t close, take off the auto-choke unit at the back of the carburettor by undoing the three screws. The auto-choke unit will still be connected by two coolant hoses and a blue wire so try to set it aside. With the auto-choke unit removed, manually rotate the choke lever that is now exposed and see whether it is possible to open and close the choke flap manually. Note that you will need to rotate the throttle pulley about half-way while you rotate the lever. If you don’t rotate the throttle pulley then the choke flap won’t be as free to move but if you rotate the pulley fully then it will invoke the ‘wide-open-kick’ which will force the choke flap to open again. If the choke mechanism feels sticky then clean up the choke-flap-spindle with carburettor cleaner and a brush. If the choke appears to work when operated manually, loosely screw the auto-choke unit back on, making sure to locate the little lever in the ‘tang’ of the bimetallic coil. Once again, rotate the throttle pulley about half-way, and rotate the auto-choke unit until the choke flap just closes. Now, you may release the throttle pulley if you are holding it open with your hand but keep holding the auto-choke unit and tighten up the three screws. If the choke flap still won’t close then further investigation is required.
Good luck with it.
