First two digits are the year (22=2022), the rest is the number of week (W46=46. calendar week of the year).

The first number indicates the year of manufacture.

The second number is a week number and refers to car built on or after this week number, so 22w22 means a car built on or after week 22 in 2022.

As per the other comments but add into that also that cars usually built after week 30ish of a build year will normally be the next model year car as thats normally when the factories have had their summer closure, re-tooled and swapped production to the next ones.

Using the 2 numbers you have mentioned as an example, '22w22' will be a MY22 car and '22w46' will likely be a MY23 car.

I think both of them will be model year 2023. The main difference is that w22 will be MY23 ‘early’ while 22w46 will be ‘late’ in manufacturer designation.

My car was delivered mid-October of 2022 so it must be older than 22w46 (probably produced around late-august or september) so it must be 22w22, yet it’s a model year 2023 (shown in the app, the factory certificate etc.).

The easiest way to make sure your car is which model year is to donwload the Volvo Cars app on your phone and link the car with your account. Then it will show the model year.

Registration date is not 100% sure as there might be long delays until a car gets shipped to the customer from the factory. Sometimes months…

My current XC60 was built towards the end of May 2022 (week 20-21) and was a MY22.5 (or MY22 late whichever you prefer).
MY23 cars were on the way but as MY23 was the big switch from the previous trim levels (Momentum, R-Design & Inscription) to the new/current trim levels (Core, Plus & Ultimate) there is no way they would have both MY22.5 and MY23 being manufactured at the same time.

It'll be a MY23 but could be either an early or late as its depending if there was a big delay between build and registration.

MY24's have only just started appearing due to build and shipping delays.

Every car manufactured after week 17 or 22 (late april or early june, depends on the year) but before week 46 of the same year is a model year of: Early “the year manufactured+1”.

Every car manufactured after week 46 (mid-November) but before week 17 or 22 of the next year is a model year of: Late “the year manufactured +1”.

In 2022, the cycle change was during the 22nd week, but yours was probably built just before that, that’s why it’s a Late MY22.

Paul-C’s car’s registration date is very close to the cycle change during the 22nd week of 2023, so it could be either model year Late 2023 or Early 2024.

See my screenshot for reference.
