Default Cutting out still please help!!!

Hi all

I mentioned on another thread that my M Reg 850 10v, kept cutting out.

For the last few months every so often the car would cut out and restart and carry on. Sometimes with a splutter now as if someone has turned the ignition off. When this happens the engine management light would come up along with the gearbox arrow and it would die. I would restart it and it would fire and carry on as normal. The car has also suffered from poor idling always around the 500-600rpm mark.
I have cleaned the idle control valve, replaced the air filter hose which slightly improved the idle and stopped the cars poor starting however the cutting out problem has got steadily worse.
It completely died on me the other day I had a mechanic come out and look at the car to diagnose any fault codes however his machine was not compatible:-( He had a look at the car and said that it is the fuel pump controller which I replaced, however teh car died on me again.

Is there anyone near Brighton coast who has a scanner who can help (i'll pay of course) or has had similar problems?

Many thanks

You don't need a scanner, read the codes like this:

Have you cleaned the throttle body?

Many thanks for the reply!

Sorry to appear dim but where would I get one of these from?
I have sprayed carbb cleaner into the throttle body...would a gunked up throttle body cause the random cutting out?

Sorry to be a pain but the car is situated so getting to a garage would be difficult..

thanks again

The diagnostic unit is already in the car behind the RH headlamp.

"would a gunked up throttle body cause the random cutting out"

It won't help but it may well be the cause of poor idling.
