I did wonder that originally, but my car was/is never dirty enough for that to be a problem (and I have the blonde colour). Be a little sparing with any cleaning fluid (which you should be anyway). A bit of vacuuming before any other cleaning is a must (pull the 'seams' apart little to get at bits of dust/dirt which get caught).

I Had them in my old XC70 and as already stated a waste of time as you block off the holes. You have to lean forwards to gain the cooling effect.
Also the thickness of the leather and the amount of holes does make cleaning a more tiresome job.
Also i was always thinking they would tear a lot easier but fortunately the never did but i was careful.
To be honest i would put them in the same bracket as a chocolate fire guard.

As with many things its sort of horses for courses and personal preference. I've had them in my cars for last 12 years and while not perfect, they do work, and would always specify. You can't realistically retrofit, and I think they actually make the seats look a bit more 'classy'.

Pfff heated and cooled leather seats! Sounds like a gimmick to me, neither fitted in my 35 year old 360 with leather seats, yeah it is cold to sit on at first but fine after only a few seconds, people are too soft these days 😋

One thing to note is where the coolant is coming from?

From memory on the XC70 it was a very small tube running from the matrix which I would think was about 1/2"?
Regardless of how good the fan was it was never going to draw much cool air.
Perhaps this is where experiences differ, i.e. if there was a 2" hose of cold air you would expect some cooling effect.

I've heard good things about them, but didn't really notice any benefit when I've been in equipped cars so really no big deal for me in my opinion.
