Idle is definitely better. Glad I gave it a go. I have to admit the hose was pretty tricky to get back in the hole where the air intake goes but I managed it.
Thankyou ever so much once again.
All the best Joe
It sounds as if the PCV system has been neglected over the years so i'd suggest doing it again in 2-3 months, again after another 2-3 months then after 4-6 months then yearly to keep it clean.

Well done for giving it a try, i expect you found it simpler to do than you were expecting as well? The amount of words to describe a few simple actions is often off-putting!

Thankyou. Yes I will do it again. It was simple to remove the flame trap and hoses but I still couldn't see the bolts that hold on the oil separator on and was concerned at dislodging the pipe that goes into the sump. In the end I put a long hose onto it and sprayed carb cleaner down there. I also did the aav as you suggested.
Thanks ever so much for the advice and instructions. Really appreciate it.

Coming to this thread rather late .... a comment that after 31 years in my 745 the original Bosch coil is starting to weep oil but, currently still functioning. I have thrown a spare one in the spare wheel well just in case!!

Weeping oil - is it oil from the oil filler being blown back by the fan onto the coil?

If it really is leaking oil, you'll probably have to change it sometime around the next 31 years point Bob!

Bummer! I'd be inclined to fit the spare coil now and keep the dubious one as a spare just in case.

Hello all. Changed back to the Volvo plugs. I do love NGK always use them but I have to say it is noticeably smoother with original plugs in.

That's interesting as I've also always used NGK ( and found them to be great ) but recently bought a new set of Volvo ones for my next service in the spring

Thats what I have found over the last 45 years of working with volvos professionally ..

NOTHING is better than the Volo plugs ... so why bother ... many cars with odd running problems have been fixed by changing the non volvo spark plugs to volvo as a first move ... same goes for HT leads and distributor caps and coils !

I like using original parts but I drew a line at 70 pounds for a ht set and the same for a dizzy cap.
I might have to take the plunge one day if I can't get my idle perfect though.
