Default New member- ‘new’ car!

Hi, just joined the forum as I thought it might be useful...I’ve never owned a Volvo before and have just bought a 93 940 estate, a Wentworth edition(?)

Have I done the right thing or have I made a terrible mistake!?

Any advice greatly appreciated, I love it so far.

I'd never owned a Volvo before I bought my 740GLE estate way back in 2006. I'd still have it now I'm f I hadn't crashed it! These old volvos are some of the best and easiest cars to keep on the road , so far be it from being a mistake.

The only one slight problem is that they like a drink but I can put up with that due to their robustness and lack of problems come MOT time!

Welcome to the forum and get some pictures up!

Cheers, as soon as I figure out how to post pics I will! (And when it stops raining)

As for fuel consumption, I also own a 70s Dodge van...I’m not a rich man.

You are in the same position I was exactly two years ago. I had similar misgivings but I don't regret it. That said I've spent more sorting the 940 than I thought I would but it's still cost me a fair bit less than the depreciation on my Seat Ateca which is now mainly driven by my wife. I actually prefer the 940.
If your experience is anything like mine then no I don't reckon you have made a mistake. These are practical, robust cars and I enjoy having a car that looks different from the norm rather than a computer on wheels which looks the same as everything else.

Welcome aboard! If this is your first Volvo expect a few odd problems and some stranger responses to fixing them! They have their quirks but are generally pretty reliable and as already pointed out, not the most economical but their longevity more than makes up for it!

As for pictures sign up for a free account with postimages.org and upload your pics there.

When you want to add a pic to a post, find the image you want to add, click the share icon above it and a list of codes will appear. Pick the "Hotlink for forums" one and click the blue button at the end of the link - it will change to "Copied".

Now come back to your post, right click where you want it then click Paste and hit Return/Enter twice to embed the link and put a line space between the pic and the following text you type.

While i think of it, i mentioned quirks earlier, if you do get any problems, before thinking you already know what the problem is, put a post up - there's a very good chance that what you think is the answer isn't and often you can do more harm than good!

Congrats!
An old 940 is fun to own and drive, easy to maintain, and will provide reliable transport for years to come if looked after.
