Fantastic. Thankyou ever so much. I will try and give it a go. Not that mechanically minded unfortunately.
Thanks again. Joe |

The PCV will be badly blocked if it hasn't been cleaned then. Non turbos are much worse for gunging up.
NGK suggest 0.8 for the plug gap in the B230E

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...3&postcount=13 The rest of that thread contains among other things information on changing the injector seals on the K-Jet. What NGK haven't pointed out is that's for copper-cored plugs, Volvo recommend 0.7mm for normal plugs - read on for why i recommend slightly tighter, besides what was in your WhatsApp a few minutes ago! Once the Warm-Up Regulator on the fuel distributor gets a bit old and weak, the mixture has a tendency to go a bit lean at a certain point during the time the engine is warming up. Having a tighter gap gets round that as it fires the weak mixture easier with a tighter gap. This also applies to the EFi models (turbo and n/asp) when the CTS gets a bit lazy in its old age. Again the slightly tighter gap improves driveability during warm-up. I had a horrendous flat-spot during warm-up on my 760 (B280E, LH-2.2 Jetronic) and when i pulled one of the plugs that had allegedly "only been in a couple of years at the most", found the gaps were ~1.9mm! It's a wonder it ran at all! That said the injectors were shot so at anything other than idle speeds, it was running rich but even that wasn't enough to get past that dead area between going off cold start enrichment and normal running mixtures, not with plugs with 3 times the correct gap anyway! Closed the gaps down as a temporary measure while i negotiated a deal on 12 plugs (my other beast uses the same plugs too) and found it ran very nicely thank you. Plug gaps in a healthy engine will increase by ~0.1mm per 10k miles so even if someone gets a tight sliding fit with the feeler gauges (as it should be) at 0.65mm, it won't be long until it's at the Volvo-recommended 0.7mm for normal plugs.

Luke has recommended standard NGK plugs further up with the BPR6ES - the copper version is BCPR6ES but i'd still go for the same gap on those as well.

Whats the core of a standard plug then ?
Also NGK recommend 0.7 gap on all plugs for my B230FK ( BPR6E and BPR6ES )and 0.6 gap for all plugs on B280 (BPR6EF and BPR6EFS )

Again, NGKs gap recommendation is at variance with Volvo who recommend 0.65-0.7mm for the B280E and F, not sure if the B280 was used by PSA in carburettor form in things like the 505/604/Tagora/Citroens etc (i know they used the B27 and B28 with carbs) and likewise with Renault and De L'Orean (i think DMC went belly-up before the upgrade to B280) so i'll go with what i know works which is 0.65mm and after 5k miles it will be 0.7mm anyway.
