Question Sat Nav is lost

On Monday the car was convinced it was in Banbury, where as I was in Swindon. On Tuesday I went to Birmingham and it moved to Aylesbury. On Wednesday I went to Manchester and it moved to a field near Chesham. Then I called the dealer & we agreed to Factory reset the car (note to self - NEVER agree to that again...) and it decided it was in Gothenburg. Today I'm home, 150 miles south of Manchester and it's in another Swedish city.

This the second time this has happened. Last time the dealer wanted the car for a week to 'fix' it but it sorted itself after 8 days before I could get into them.

It's clear to me that the car is not reporting it's position properly and this is becoming a serious problem - as well as the navigation issues (the M42 was blocked on Tuesday night & I had to cut across the city centre), my insurance is probably invalid as the car cannot be tracked if it's stolen and the car is not detecting speed signs correctly. The reset has lost every single one of my settings which is also a major pain in the butt. Has anyone else had this issue? And more importantly have they fixed it??

It could be a dodgy aerial fin. Poor signal, not enough locked-on satellites. How old is your Sensus ? I believe on some earlier versions, there was a signal strength mode.

It's homesick.... or Maybe it didn't like the idea of being in Swindon, Birmingham, Manchester & was wishing it were somewhere else.

What age is the car ? hopefully it's covered by warranty. get it to the dealers & get them to have a look.

Sound's like either the SW is corrupt or the Signal strength has an issue.

If it's the latest Mk2 version, then it's most likely a software problem - there seems to have been lots of reports of this... one of the latest thread below
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=270033

Get your dealer to install latest s/ware and it "should" be ok, no promises mind.

sounds more like software than anything else..
Although the reset fixed it, albeit locking on to Gothenburg and now thinking it's still in Sweden, is very odd. Indicates an issue with not knowing where it was when you reset it, it assumed Gothenburg, and everything now is relative to where it was when it relocked to a satellite.
My previous Seat would sometimes think it was in Wolfsburg (VW component), and show me driving around Germany when I was in hertfordshire all the time.
Software fault needed a reboot to factory settings.
Drove owners mad...and was quite common across VAG family.

I should have said - it’s a 2017 XC90 T8.

I’ve read elsewhere that disconnecting the negative battery terminal can resolve the issue by prompting a complete reboot of the car. However, as well as being really impractical, some were reporting that they damaged the solder on the connector when they did this.

Thanks for the link to the other thread - I’ve also had the occasional glitch which means the centre consol controls (volume knob & drive style selector) stop working. This seems to happen if you start the car, put it in reverse & change the drive style before the software has fully loaded.

As the car is so new, I would not attempt to do anything but go straight back to the dealer. Try something yourself and you could stuff the system and be faced with an expensive bill.

Removing negative battery terminal for 10minutes does normally sort this issue,

But as others have said car is new and still under warranty so let dealer sort it and get the latest wk46 software update with the nice intellisafe checklist at startup,

Default Navigation is now lost

I have a 2017 XC T8 which I recently acquired. The other day my Navigation gave me my location as New York. Odd since we live in Santa Barbara, CA on the other side of the country. I was getting ready to contact Volvo On Call, when I thought I would do a quick search on the internet. I came across this forum and was pleased to read that I just needed to disconnect the neg connection on the battery and leave it off for 10 to 15 minutes. It worked and I am now back to Santa Barbara. I am pleased that I did not need to take it in. Our closest dealer is around 70 miles away. I also have a 2017 Chevy Bolt and I have had instances where the screen has gone blank or it just froze. It would come together after rebooting which did not always occur quickly. Not necessarily surprised to have this happen. Cars today are computers on four tires. The cars have so many sensors and processors, it is not surprising that glitches occur. I am so pleased that the internet provides a communication tool to share experiences. I really love the car. It is a blast to drive.

Default Navigation was lost, but found again

Oh, I might mention, I first became aware something was wrong in that the car modem would not automatically start. I would need to go into the menu and check the box. Each time I stopped and then started again same issue. Go back and start the modem. Apparently this is also tied into the GPS being lost.
