Forget BKV's .... it's not real 700/900 Series everyday enthusiasts stuff

I wouldn't frig around with tape on the roof. The temps on the inside of the steel of the roof are 'tastily high'.

If I were David in his situation (as I now understand it) I would make up two 'blocks' of suitable material (maybe aluminium) to insert either side via the hole of the light fitting to bridge the cap (at the proper distance) and superglue them in. A bit of pressure on the headliner for a couple of minutes or so should fix them.

Next - this isn't a criticism of the OP but this headlining issue is really tedious and should be a sticky, when I was Register Keeper (I have to be aware of the bully boy moderators who threaten me for mentioning that - shocking but true) I wrote a piece on just this subject and submitted it...where it went who knows ?

The new Register Keeper has never been seen here, all we see, and I'm sorry, are anodyne write ups in the magazine.

Jon.
I known not of the detail of you problems Jon, but would agree with your latter observation !

Not a problem Bob, just someone very odious. Tell you sometime.

That's what he's been trying using plastic box section and 3M VHB tape - unfortunately from what i can work out the tape is too thin to stick to th roof which appears to have some sort of rust preventinon spray on it making it quite rough.
I've suggested several layers of the tape but don't know if he's tried it yet.

Default Magnetic attraction?!

Hi David

I wonder if magnets might offer a solution? You can get some incredibly powerful little things in various shapes and sizes. Try a search on ebay for neodymium magnets. I'm thinking some of these could be fixed to whatever spacer you are using to fasten it to the roof.

Regards,
Tyron

Excellent idea Tyron! Those little neodymium magnets have some serious power in them!

Hi Bob, the reason I decided to use the 3M VHB tape was that it is supposed to work in high temp areas, I think the inside of the metal roof is coated with something that stopped it from sticking, I'm going to try and clean it as much as possible and give it another go, David.

Many thanks for this suggestion Tyron, I'll certainly look up those magnets, David.

Hi Tyron, Many thanks for this, I've been looking at these magnets, it sounds a very good idea, so I've just ordered some, I'll bond one onto the back of the headlining board, then one magnet on top of that to the roof to close off my 30mm gap/deflection, I will let you know if it works. David.
