It also shows that the weakest link as usual is the idiot behind the wheel.
That said, old Volvos can be just as strong:

Indeed, The latest generation SPA cars have lane assist as standard so in that situation the car would have warned and steered it back into the lane - it is probably best to avoid an accident!

Who among us has not made a mistake in their driving career, 'gpl1968'? I know that I have. The difference is that I got away with mine. You do not have to be an 'idiot' to have an accident, but if you do it is reassuring to know that you are in an inherently safe car. The car behaved exactly as the designers intended.

Edit: The driver may have been taken ill or maybe stung by a wasp - who knows what actually cased the collision?
