Default 440 1.6i 1996 Driver's Side Rear Door Won't Open

Hello,

My driver's side rear door won't open. I have taken off the door panel on both sides of the car to compare with the opposite door that still opens and can see there is a mechanism within the central locking motor that goes up and down when you unlock and lock the car with the key fob which in turn allows the door to unlock. This component looks like a black rubber spring. Is there anyway to force this component to unlock the door from the inside as currently the door is shut or if you know another method to open the rear door. I need to be able to open the door in order to pass my NCT (MOT). I have also looked in the Haynes Manual but unfortunately it does not suggest how to fix a rear door not opening.

Any suggestions will be helpful

Thank You
