Anyone know how much HP can a single 175 Stromberg support on a B20?

Interesting question. A Dutch friend of mine used to have B20 F.I. engine that had a single Stromberg fitted. It was an engine that had been swapped into several cars. Reckoned to be over 350k miles. I rode in a latish 2 door Amazon with it fitted and it cruised happily at 90 in OD. We were late for the ferry. The loss of a second carb generally only felt at the top end and I submit that most of us rarely go above 5k rpm in "normal" driving. Not having to fiddle with twin carbs is a bonus!

I want to stay original with regards to appearance but maybe some light engine upgrades in the future and don’t want to change from a Stromberg. Just a thought at this stage but hoping to do a OD upgrade and some engine mods at the same time.

If you have a B20A with an A cam it will be smooth and quiet and very happy to punt around at modest speeds. With overdrive it will still be happy at motorway speeds due to the low back axle ratio. About 90bhp and torquey.
My previous 121 4 door had a B18A with Stromberg. 4.10 axle and OD. It was smoother and quieter at 75 mph than my Estate with B18B, 4.56 and OD. Food for thought.
